Rivamoto Junior Team Phillip Island 26/02/2012

Australian Jed Metcher finished in 11th position today at the first round of the World Super Sport Championship in Phillip Island, and picked up an impressive 5 points to kick of his first WSS season.

The impressive start to his title chase was just reward for Jed and the team in the extreme conditions. Although he was ecstatic to finish in the points it could have been even better as he was up to 9th with only 2 laps to go in the shortened 15 lap race. The decision to shorten the race distance proved to be the right one as riders struggled to find grip in the latter stages. Jed lost out to Ianuzzo and Pezek and had to settle for 11th.

"I'm extremely grateful to be given this fantastic opportunity to race at this level by the Rivamoto, I'm happy with the result today and how the team has gelled. The progression over the week shows that we are working in the right direction and I'd like to keep this momentum going to the next round. Thanks to K-Tech suspension for making all the changes we needed and for the incredible support here on the Island. I am very grateful to Dad and everyone who has supported the Rivamoto team. Thanks to Jeremy McWilliams, Andrew Harrison, Marc Moyano, Terry Armstrong, Dean Oughtred, Pete Lyons, Eduard Blokin, my family and all the support from the crew", said Jed.

Jeremy McWilliams added, "We can't praise Jed enough for that effort, his approach to the challenge is focussed and his feedback is precise. We're all extremely pleased with this result; it's a dream start to the season. Thanks to the team and local help for the effort in making this possible".

Rivamoto move to Italy for the next test before the Italian round at Imola on April 1st.

Big thank you to my sponsors for their support.

MTM-RT Motorsport/Jed Metcher 2011 preseason test report.

2011 European Superstock Champion Jed Metcher has officially put pen to paper in signing a one year contract with the Russian ran team, Rivamoto which will see the young 21 year old Australian from Eltham, in Victoria go head to head with some of the best riders in the up coming 2012 World Supersport Championship season.

Metcher will join forces with two 38 year old Russian riders, Oleg Pozdneev from Moscow & Eduard Blokhin from Omsk, who is a inspiration of the team & has big plans for the team and is supporting Metcher's 2012 season.Team Rivamoto, who are currently based in Cartagena in Spain, but will move to Bologna in Italy after round 1 at Phillip Island will have former 250/500cc racing star Jeremy McWilliams at helm being the team manger for the 2012 season.

"I am very excited about being involved with a developing team in the World supersport championship. The idea of exposing our sport on Russian soil is the under lying objective of the Rivamoto team but in the process my goal is to Impress as much as possible in the Super Sport class. Its an honor to work with Jeremy McWilliams and with his support I believe we have a chance to make an impact" Metcher said.

Jed Metcher has got his goals all sorted for the season and will aim for a top 8 in the 2012 World Supersport championship, and could quite easily be on target if 2011 was anything to go by.. As the saying goes in Motorsport, to finish first, first you have to finish, and in 2011 Metcher scored 7 podiums from 10 racers, two 3rd's, four 2nd's & one win which came at Aragon in Spain. " With the current direction of motorsport I can not afford to have an up and down season" added Metcher.

With only about 5 weeks to go before the opening round at Victoria's Phillip Island circuit, Metcher and his new Rivamoto team will have a bit of time to iron out any bugs in the Yamaha YZF-R6 with a two day test in early February in Almeria, about a 230km drive from Cartagena, another two days at Jerez, then a four day test in Cartagena before the official test on the Monday & Tuesday on the week building up to the first round on Metcher's home soil at "The Island".

For any rider its a special feeling to race in front of your home crowd, but for an Australian what is it like?...

"I have raced before in front of the big crowds at the 2008 Motogp as a 125GP wild card. I am looking forward to racing in the WSS in 2012 in front of my home crowd mainly because I have the advantage of the track knowledge and it will be a great way to start off the season on a high"! said Metcher.

MTM-RT Motorsport/Jed Metcher Round 10, Portimao Portugul STK 600 Championship.

MTM-RT Motorsport/Jed Metcher Round 10, Portimao Portugul STK 600 Championship. The final round of the World superbike season 2011 would finish up on the beautiful Portimao, Portuguese coast. A truly unique circuit with elevations and incredible descents that can make you feel like you are on a roller coaster! The type of track that i would recommend to anyone looking for a thrill. Although it sounds exciting it was defiantly the most difficult track to learn in my 2011 campaign.

Practise 1 was simply learning the track a little better after our testing was interrupted multiple times throughout the day. This was a tricky situation due to the tyre restrictions so we needed to gain as much track knowledge of lines and set up as we could, with minimal laps. We finished the session with only 6 laps completed, leaving us in 14th position which was a little bit worrying at that point. However, we did manage to improve with the set up.

Qualifying 1 proved difficult again with the very technical nature of the track. We struggled to find a good feeling with the front suspension. And this lack of suspension caused a small front end loss in a tight right hand hairpin. This crash highlighted our issue and helped to find a better set up. We finished up in 7th position, a second row start with a spare set of tyres was not to ideal but we had time to improve again in qualifying 2.

Qualifying 2 produced some fantastic weather and a great time to put in some fast laps to challenge for the front row start. Unfortunately for us we were still trying to find a good setting for the front suspension, we spent some time on the old rubber fixing our problems. After making a lot of changes we decided it was time to put some new rubber on and attempt at leased 6 laps to snatch the front row. I had a few clear runs with some nice consistent pace. I managed to place in 4th position with 5 minutes to go but was relegated back to 6th at the end of the session. We sat as a team after the session and discussed the issues and the strategy that we would put in place in order to bring the championship home! Two times during the year we have started from the 2nd row and still managed podium finishes so the confidence was still on our side.

The final race of the year, and up to this point, the most important race of my career! I had not felt any real nervous feelings, I had thought and talked about them more than really feeling them. I saw it simply as a normal race weekend where the podium finish was the goal. But at this point in time just before the race putting my suit on I had no choice in the matter, it was like a flooding feeling that couldn't be stopped even if I kept my mind distracted. A big meal the night before prepared by the amazing couple Bart Jacobs and his wife Marina Boterberg set the team up for a pleasant sleep. Preparation went as normal on Sunday morning with a little more concentration in all areas by my fantastic mechanics Swen Jenik and Roberto Lukken Codes. Team manager Ludo Van Der Veken and I went over the race plans in different situations again to be sure that pit board communication to me mid race would be understood. Once on the grid I managed to calm down and focus on the race ahead. My start was quite ok and the first corner proved even better pulling out in 3rd position gave me a great confidence boost because I had a little bit of clear track and only needed to finish 9th in the worst case scenario. It was good to finally follow some of the guys who know the circuit pretty well in order to improve myself a little more. I honestly felt that I could run with Van Der Mark and Day at the front but although the risk was low I was still not willing to take it. At this point in third position I wanted to settle down and find a nice rhythm this was much more difficult than I thought it was going to be due to the pack of riders following behind. I became a little more nervous when wild card "Irwin" came past because he made a mistake a few corners later, I would prefer he was in front so I could see him. The next obstacles popped up when "Irwin" and "Lanusse" both moved pass, but within a few laps "Lanusse" crashed and half a lap later "Irwin" crashed. At this point first and second position looked impossible but a podium was still in sight. With two laps to go "Krajci" a rider who had yet to gain a podium position was pushing hard to get the result and I was thinking only about the finish line.

The relief really hit after I crossed the finishing line in 4th position, 6 positions ahead of where I needed to be to confirm a championship win!

I have a list of people to thank, My mum Jackie, my Dad Mal, my amazing girlfriend Jemma who has supported me and visited me this year in Europe, my whole family and friendship group who have been incredibly supportive, Gary Morrison my great friend and main supporter outside my family, all those who helped out on the journey till now, Tam and Bruce (Warrandyte cafe), Tania, Richard and Ivan (Yarrambat Estate)/Margharita's Pizza lower plenty, The balding family (Pumpworks Vic). MTM-RT Motorsport/Jed Metcher Round 8, Imola Italy STK 600 world Championship.

Round 8 at the beautiful and historic Imola circuit in the heart of Italy saw some fantastic weather and racing! The MTM-RT Motorsports team unfortunately were not able to test at this particular circuit so tensions were high and expectations were very unknown.

Friday morning practise was very interesting due to the new surface on the circuit. The surface caused mayhem as all riders could only complete 5 laps before the rear tyre shredded from the course asphalt. Pirelli saw the dangers of reusing this tyre and elected to supply one extra rear, giving the riders with less or no experience on the track a small advantage.

Qualifying one with an extra tyre helped me a great deal to find a good setup. In this session I started to really enjoy the elevations and blind entrys of this beautiful circuit. It took many laps to become consistent but I managed to finish up 5th fastest, while at the same time creep closer to the race setup that we needed.

Saturday the weather was beautiful and the sessions from the day before laid a lot of rubber down on the new surface giving us a lot more grip. Qualifying two I went out on the old tyre in order to improve the set up slightly and only made a little improvement in lap time. This gave me a bundle of confidence because I knew I could go faster on the new rubber. We went out focused on doing a lot of laps to try to get a front row start. Lack of experienced was still an issue on this track, we couldn't find around half a second that I needed to make sure that we secured a front row start. With 5 minutes to go of the session, I tagged onto the back of one of the Italian wild cards who had just put new rubber on. He revealed to me the little tips I needed to acquire pole position and a lap close to 1.5 seconds faster than the previous year's fastest lap.

Pole position was a great place to start the race, I managed one of my best starts of the year and claimed the "holeshot" into the first corner. Unfortunately a small mistake at turn 6 saw me loose one position to second and was then bullied back to third at turn 13 where 'Russo' a local Italian rider almost collided with the rider ahead of me 'Day'. After two laps I was happy to follow closely in 3rd position in order to pick and choose where I could make my moves as the laps counted down. To my surprise an additional local Italian 'Morrentino' moved passed in the process making my job much more difficult and regrettably letting 'Day' and 'Russo' make a gap of 2 seconds. This gap closed considerably after I made my way past 'Morrentino.' Yet not enough to make a last attempt at improving on 3 rd position.

Another podium, pole position and a lead of 15 points in the championship has made our Round 8 race at Imola a good progression on our way to round 9 Magny Cours!

MTM-RT Motorsport/Jed Metcher Round 6, Nurburgring Germany STK 600 world Championship.

The world famous Nurburgring was the venue for 2011’s German round of the World Superbike. An incredible circuit with a mixture of flat and cambered turns combined with a reasonable amount of elevation.

Heading into practise 1 on Friday morning our first objective would be to learn the section of the circuit I was not familiar with. The famous “Eiffle” area in Germany was living up to its name of having incredibly unpredictable weather patterns. When we set up the day before we had 28 degree beautiful weather, first practise was very wet! This was a great chance to find a wet setting early in the weekend, after using the first 20 minutes of the session to learn the track we started to get up to pace. Finishing the practise in 7th position was reasonable for the practise session.

frey

Qualifying 1 Had dried up and was looking to be a beautiful 26 degree day. This being our first dry session lead to many changes and also some significant progress in lap time towards the end of the session. We chose to save our new set of tyres for the expected better weather and more grip for the next day’s qualifying session. We finished up in 6th position, half a second off the pole position time. But with much more confidence for the next session and with new rubber to produce a lap fast enough for pole position.

kabuto

A beautiful sunny day was produced for our qualifying 2. After discussions we made some very positive changes which reflected in the lap time. On old tyres we improved our fastest time by 7 tenths of a second to take pole with 20 minutes to go, still with the option of new rubber to improve more. We set off with 15 minutes to go in an attempt to secure pole position with the new rubber I was confident that with the MTM-RT Motorsports R6 that we could take the pole position. With 10 minutes to go I managed to claim pole with a gap of around 3 tenths of a second and faster than the lap record by 5 tenths of a second. Unfortunately with 1 minute to go American rider Josh Day managed a 1 off flyer to improve on my time by 1 tenth. 2nd position on the grid was disappointing but a race win was still very much in reach!

A beautiful 28 degree sunny day was a fantastic setting for a highly anticipated Stock 600 race, due to this class producing the tightest competition for the championship out for all the world superbike classes this year. All who know Nurburgring will be familiar with the difficult first turn which catches out many riders every year. Luckily enough we got off to a good start slotting into 2nd position getting though turn 1 with no issues, I wanted to move quickly into the lead in an attempt to break away from the pack. I moved pass Dutch rider Van Der Mark on the opening lap on the entry into turn 6, this would only stick until the end of the back straight where he would pass back. To follow in 2nd position was acceptable in order to break away from the pack. On lap 5 MTM-RT Motorsports Rider Duwelz moved past myself into 2nd as we struggled for rear grip off the turns. With no team orders I understood that I would need to deal with this as if I were racing any other rider. After many passing manoeuvrers and some very close racing it came down to the last corner, 2nd position was very important for my championship. I made this clear with a pass into the last corner on the last lap to take 2nd.

Now leading the championship by 7 points is a big relief after having some bad luck earlier in the year!

I would like to thank everyone who has supported the MTM-RT Motorsport team.

Thanks to Ludo Van Der Veken, Swen Jenik, Rob Vennegoor, Roberto Lukken Codes, all the

support crew from the team, Damen Leathers and of course my family and friends!
